Our Favorite Vacation Spot

Hiking Mountains Out West

One of our biggest passions as a couple has been traveling. Prior to COVID-19, we would plan for a few trips a year and tried to go abroad every 18 months or so. There's something very fulfilling about meeting new people from around the world and experiencing life from their vantage point, even if only for a short amount of time. One of our most memorable trips was renting a car and road-tripping across Ireland staying at different Airbnb's along the way. One of our stops was actually on a sheep farm up in the mountains with a VERY loud donkey living right next door who was more than happy to act as our alarm clock. The Irish scenery was incredible, the people were very warm and inviting and we got to experience parts of the country few tourists probably think to visit.

Our favorite travel spot that keeps pulling us back is the Colorado Rockies. We have done three different trips to cabins up in the mountains and we are already itching to go back for another. There's nothing quite like drinking coffee out on a patio overlooking the aspens in peak foliage on a brisk Colorado morning. We love to hike and Javier loves to ski. It's truly our happy place and we know we will be visiting often with our family.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Javier & Andrew

Andrew About Javier: Javier is the kindest person I know and truly my best friend. He is motivated, passionate and selfless. He can make me smile without saying a word, he can make me laugh at his corny Dad jokes with ease and he always makes me feel safe and secure in being myself. I've known Javi and I were meant for each other since our first few weeks of dating. While we were only 23 years old, something just seemed to click and we became inseparable. He knows me better than I think I know myself at times. To say that we are soulmates would be an understatement. I'm excited every day about spending our future together but more than anything, I'm excited to see him as a Dad.

Javier About Andrew: I knew Andy and I were right for each other during our first date. We have essentially been inseparable since. 8 or so years later I still feel we are absolutely meant for each other and I am so excited to start this next chapter in our lives together. The things I admire about him have changed and evolved over the years but his humor, love of family, respect and passion are things I have always loved about him. Lately I have enjoyed watching him evolve as an uncle to our two new nephews and we share a true sense of excitement in welcoming another family member into our lives together.

Our Cultural Heritage

We are a multicultural, diverse household and we would not have it any other way. We are so excited for the opportunity to bring a child into our home with a unique story, background and culture that we would welcome with open arms.

We plan on honoring their background and seeking out role models that support the development of their self identity as they grow. We also hope to share our current family culture including raising them in a bilingual household while developing our new traditions together as a family.

The community in which we currently live is also very diverse. On a daily basis, we see and celebrate families of various backgrounds, ages, ethnicities and cultures. We are so excited to be amongst them with our own expanded family and look forward to growing our relationships in our new home and community.

While we may be considered a unique family compared to a more traditional definition, we are fortunate and excited to live in a time and city that embrace all families.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a quiet family friendly neighborhood in northern Virginia, just outside of the District of Columbia. Our neighborhood has a mixture of charm, friendly atmosphere and a strong sense of community. There are numerous parks, playgrounds, cultural institutions and museums within walking and driving distance that we are very much looking forward to experiencing as a family. As somewhat recent transplants from the Midwest, we also are enjoying exploring all the East Coast has to offer.

We live in a fully renovated single family ranch home with a private yard. Our home has great character, beautiful mid-century charm that we love and is the perfect place for us to start growing our family. We cannot wait to turn one of our spare bedrooms into a nursery for our kiddo.

We share our home with our 8-year-old Chocolate Lab George. He has been with us since he was just a few months old. He loves children, gets along very well with our young nephews and is very much looking forward to his new role as big brother and best friend.

Our Extended Families

Javier & Family

We have a very loving, caring and supportive family who are beyond excited to welcome a new member into their lives. We are also so excited to start this new chapter as a party of three or more. There's so much we look forward to sharing with our kiddo and even more we know we will learn from them.

Andrew & Family

Javier's parents raised him in a bilingual household and we are really looking forward to continuing this tradition with our child by speaking both English and Spanish in our home. Javier's parents look forward to babysitting, taking our child on trips to Disney World and sharing their two homes (their main home and their beach house). His parents are extremely excited to be grandparents for the first time and also look forward to traveling abroad with our growing family.

Andrew grew up in the Midwest with his parents and older sister. His family has expanded in the past few years with the addition of two nephews. We work very hard to claim the titles of "favorite uncles" (it is a full-time job for us)! We visit as often as we possibly can as being around our family brings us so much joy.

From Us to You

First, thank you so much for reading our letter. We understand you are likely browsing other profiles and trying to find a good match for your child, which must be slightly overwhelming we are sure. At least we have that in common! The thought that you would consider us overwhelms us with so much joy, it is impossible to put into words. So thank you, sincerely. It truly means the world to us.

We have given a lot of thought about how to write this letter. Each alternative felt too rehearsed and insincere. So we have settled on sitting down and writing what comes naturally. So where do we begin?

Hi, our names are Javier and Andrew. We know our profile is full of information about us and who we are so we will try to be brief! We are both 32 years old and have been together for eight and a half years and married for a little over three years now. Javier is a studio leader for a international architecture firm and Andrew is a tax manager at a large public accounting firm here in the District of Columbia. We have an 8-year-old, four-legged furry child named George but no other kids just yet. We have a beautiful home, a wonderful marriage and we are hoping to start building a happy family together.

But enough about us! What feels more natural to us is learning more about you. While this sadly is not a two-way dialogue, we would love to chat in any way that is convenient for you at any time as you navigate this process of finding the right match.

No matter your personal circumstances and what made you consider adoption, we know this must be a stressful time. We would never pretend to know your story, what you are going through or how you are feeling. We can only say that if there is anything we can do to make this even slightly less difficult, that is what we are offering. We are exploring this process for the first time ourselves and we are learning more and more each day about the emotions adoption can provoke for everyone involved.

As we have learned more about the adoption process, the term openness comes up often as we are sure you are aware. We would like you to know that the openness aspect of adoption is something we embrace and not something we fear. To us, it is only natural that we figure out what that means together as adoptive and birth parents together. We of course would love to share photos and exchange letters to your comfort level. We are also open to sharing our personal emails, phone numbers and coordinating visits. Again, we think this is something that we as a group can determine based on the best interest of our child, as that is what is most important.

If you think we might be a good fit for your child, we can promise you that they will grow up in a happy, healthy and stable home. Their childhood will be full of adventure, joy and dog kisses. They will be surrounded by our loving families and maybe even grow up to be an older or oldest brother or sister someday. We understand that this may sound like wishful thinking but we would never make any promises we could not keep.

As we stated earlier, we would truly love to hear from you and learn more about you. If that is something you are interested in, please let American Adoptions know. Thank you again for taking the time and considering us in this process.
